General Information, Fees and Applications, Summer 2011

Accommodations for residents are in rustic cabins, complete with full bathroom, where you can listen to the lake from your screened porch. For a look at our cabins and accommodations, see our photo galleries. We serve three home-cooked meals daily, with setup and cleanup by cooperative participation. Vegetarian meals are available on request.

Bearnstow offers DSL Internet service for those who bring their own
wireless-equipped laptops. Reception is excellent in or near the Main Hall.

Resident workshop participants should arrive on Sunday afternoon before dinner, depart on Saturday after lunch. Workshops include morning and afternoon classes daily plus lab time, with time for recreation. Total course hours exceed 30 and may be accepted by colleges and university for credit. Apply to your respective institution.

  • Tuition for Resident Participants includes housing and meals.
  • Tuition for Day Participants includes lunch.
  • Resident and Day Participants taking full six-day workshops who enroll for two or more consecutive workshops receive a 10 percent discount.
  • Limited work/study scholarships are available (please note your request on your application). Work/study participants assist the interns in exchange for $75 deducted from total fee. Participants requiring additional financial assistance should contact the pertinant workshop instructor. Full-season residental internships are also available, which provide access to all classes and a stipend. Please send inquiries to admin@bearnstow.org.
Workshop Auditing
  • Auditors must have an agreement with the instructor to attend classes. The instructor may wish to charge an auditing fee. Please e-mail admin@bearnstow.org, giving your professional status and the workshop you would like to attend. Auditors will be housed with student participants.
Fees for Day Camp:
  • Two weeks Day Camp, including lunch: $275.00.
Fees for Guests:
  • $75.00 first day per person, $60 per day subsequent days; children under 10 (housed with parents) half price. For infants, parents must bring sleeping accommodations. Parents will be responsible for minors at all times. Staff guests are housed with staff members.

Getting to Bearnstow

BY AIR OR BUS:  Take air or bus to Augusta, Maine. We will pick you up at the airport or bus station.

Yahoo map of Mount Vernon area. Drive northwest on Seavey Corner Road (and continue on Tower Road) 1.5 miles and turn sharp left on Ithiel Gordon Road. (If you reach the boat access, you've gone too far.) Go 0.6 mi and turn right onto Bearnstow Road (at the Bearnstow sign). Go 0.4 mi. (stay left at the fork in the road) and continue to horse stable and parking lot.
