Re-education of the Body — Klein/Mahler Technique

Taught by Barbara Mahler
August 2430, 2008

This class provides the underpinnings to support all styles of dance techniques, re-educating the body with an interweaving of theory and practice on a physical and organic level. The result is clarity and sureness of movement, and an understanding of the innate intelligence of the body. The main thrust is for dancers to find their own essence, their own identity and integrity in movement. We work at the level of the bone, not the traditional level of the muscles. When the bones are aligned the body becomes connected, powerful and strong, efficient and alive. The content accommodates all levels of moving competence.

BARBARA MAHLER has taught daily classes for more than 27 years, educating and teaching (with Susan Klein) a generation of dancers. Active in the development of contemporary dance technique, Barbara was a Movement Research artist in residence for the 200001 season and is again for the 200708 season. She is an adjunct faculty member at Hunter College in NYC, on the artist advisory board of Brooklyn Arts Exchange, and holds a MFA from the University WisconsinMilwaukee. Barbara was originally inspired by pioneer dance kinesiologist Dorothy Vislocky. She maintains a private practice in Zero Balancing and other healing modalities. See also www.barbaramahler.com.
